Two teams from Middlesex University Dubai scored a multiple win at the UAE ACCA Student Challenge held at the Shangri La hotel on March 21, 2013.
The ACCA Student Challenge is the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants’ annual competition, which this year attracted 30 teams from across the UAE. Middlesex University Dubai was represented with three teams, two of which took first and second place at the event, which consisted of four rounds of questions covering general knowledge, as well as accounting and finance concepts.
The winning team, who called themselves “Hepburn and Hemingway” consisted of Ahmad Bashirinia, Alish Mohamed Ashraf and Jayksihin Kataria, while the second place went to the “Invincible Accounting Students: IAS MDX” which included Amav Ramesh Shewkramani, Mohammed Baseer Ul-Huq Sadiqqui and Anantharaman Ramanathan. The third team from Middlesex was placed in the top 10 and consisted of Avni Chotai, Aakansha Gulabani and Angela Rodrigues.
Dr Vijaya Kumar, Lecturer in Accounting at Middlesex University Dubai, said: “The ACCA Student Challenge is comprehensive, and teams have to excel in all areas in order to win the competition. Our students are academically robust and highly motivated, which gave them a strong position to succeed.”
The winners all received a Blackeberry Playbook 32GB, while the runner ups received Dhs 500 each. The runner ups also won the prize for the “Best Decorated Table” at the event. Amongst other accolades, our students were singled out for their professionalism.
